John Butler of J D Carriers stands proudly in front of his new Freightliner Argosy 110” 8x4 Tractor Unit, while his partner Dale Kutia who is serving with our Defence Forces in East Timor hasn’t even seen the truck in person yet.
The tractor unit is a real head turner, being the first Argosy 110” Raised Roof 8x4 put on the road in New Zealand and very possibly anywhere in the world. It comes complete with many personalised extras including a double bed and upper bunk, 20” flat screen TV, a pull out fridge draw beside driver’s seat, lots of stainless steel cab highlights and a rows of extra LED cab outline lights.
John & Dale’s decision to buy this truck was based on their very successful last five years of operating a 6x4 version of the same specification that has recently clicked over one million kilometers. Pulling a quad axle refrigerated semi trailer the 6x4 required careful loading for correct weight distribution so a move to the 8x4 eliminates that worry. The other benefit of operating an 8x4 tractor is increased payloads and reduced Road User Charges.
