Company History
Trucks and Trailers Ltd began in 1987 with company founder Don Wright starting a heavy truck repair service from the back of a ute, while running a transport company of his own.
The company soon grew with a reputation for quality work, and 24 hour service. It was this reputation that lead to the company securing a parts and service dealership for heavy European trucks and opening the first Trucks and Trailers Ltd premises on March 12 1987.
The business developed over the years, 1991 brought Trucks and Trailers the Mercedes-Benz franchise, 1995 saw the addition of Freightliner to the Mercedes-Benz group, and Sterling was added in 2002, all with matching development of staff and facilities to provide the best product support possible.
With the addition of Freightliner Trucks to the Mercedes-Benz family in 1995 Trucks and Trailers helped introduce Freightliner to the New Zealand market not only selling the vehicles but making additions and improvements to suit the New Zealand market including converting the left hand drive FLB and FLD models to right hand drive, as well as adding twin-steer axles to 6x4 FLB and Argosy trucks.
The conversion project was so successful that Trucks and Trailers actually demonstrated the conversion to right hand drive at the freightliner factory in Portland USA, helping set up the methods for production in right hand drive that are used by the factory today.
Trucks and Trailers Ltd became a full Mercedes-Benz dealer in 2003 and is now the largest on longest serving North Island sales, parts and service dealer for all Mercedes-Benz heavy commercial vehicle products.
Trucks and Trailers continues to grow, putting more and more vehicles on the road, with increasing numbers of support staff and locations to ensure 24 hour customer service and product backup. Trucks and Trailers now employ over 40 in two locations. However the spirit of Trucks and Trailers that began in the back of a ute in 1987 has not been lost, it’s what got this company to where it is today. It’s based on hard work, honesty and customer service, and it means that we’ll go to almost any length to ensure that you have the best product, with superior parts and service support when and where you need it. |
