All staff were consulted prior to this change – the only negative was having to work on Livestock trucks.
Shortly after this we established two additional branches (Palmerston North and Rotorua), which became sales operations as well.
Trucks & Trailers also helped introduce Freightliner trucks to the New Zealand market – not only selling the vehicles, but making additions and improvements to suit the local conditions including converting the left hand drive FLB, FLD and FL80 models to right hand drive, and adding twin-steer axles to 6x4 FLB and Argosy trucks.
The conversion project was so successful that Trucks & Trailers actually demonstrated the conversion to right hand drive at the Freightliner factory in Portland USA, helping set up the methods for production in right hand drive that are still used by the factory today.
In February 1997, a new purpose-built facility was opened in Auckland which is still in use today. This is one of a very limited number of Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Dealerships in Australasia to have a glass showroom for presenting new vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz van sales and servicing were added to our portfolio.
Won the coveted Mercedes-Benz Dealer of the Year award for the first time.

For the fourth time, we won the coveted Mercedes-Benz Dealer of the Year award.
Trucks & Trailers Palmerston North became the official parts and service agent for MAN and Western Star trucks.
In late 2013 we moved into larger, more modern premises on Port Road to better serve our customers. Together with the Palmerston North branch, this allowed us to provide excellent coverage of the lower North Island.
Considerable improvements were made to our Palmerston North site, including resealing the yard, painting the building, new security fencing, new wash bays, new bulk oil storage; further enhancing our professional image.
Trucks & Trailers continues to expand, putting more and more vehicles on the road, with increasing numbers of support staff and locations to ensure 24-hour customer service and product backup. Our policy to ‘fix what we sell’ has cemented numerous long-term relationships.
We now employ over 90 people in five locations, however the spirit of our company that began in the back of a ute in 1987 has not been lost – after all, it’s what got this company to where it is today.
It’s based on hard work, honesty and customer service, and it means that we’ll go to almost any length to ensure that you have the best product, with superior parts and service support when and where you need it.
